Why
Every Woman Should Be
Under Chiropractic Care
The
obvious -- every woman has a spine and nervous system. Chiropractic
can offer an evaluation of function and quality care that promotes it.
Chiropractic is safe, cost-effective, and there are the obvious benefits
that many seek out chiropractic for: care for the cause of back problems,
neck pain, headaches, etc.
Women have most of the same health concerns that men have. But women
face many health problems unique to them or that more often or more
seriously affect women than men. Doctors of chiropractic have always
recognized this and have developed and provided a wide variety of treatment
options specifically suited to women's health needs.
Because of this (and because most women tend to have a heightened awareness
of their physical condition and are accustomed to seeking help from
health professionals), more women than men regularly rely on chiropractic
care.
The nervous system is responsible for regulating and coordinating messages
from the brain/spinal cord to the hormones of the reproductive system,
as well as linking them with other hormone systems ( i.e. thyroid and
stress hormones). Imagine the potential for problems if a distortion
occurs!
Interference in a woman's reproductive system can present as over activity
(i.e., heavy bleeding or heavy cramping), under activity, i.e., no Continued:menstrual
activity or infertility) or distorted activity (i.e., PMS or endometriosis).
Many women have experienced improvement in their reproductive health
while under chiropractic care, including beautiful babies born to "infertile"
women.
Some
primary addictions affecting women are work, food, and chemical addictions,
including alcohol, nicotine, recreational drugs, prescription drugs
and caffeine.
An
addiction is a physical and/or psychological state in which a breakdown
of specific brain pathways can result in the Reward Deficiency Syndrome
(RDS), when the brain is unable to produce the chemicals responsible
for a sense and feeling of well-being and pleasure.
Older
women are much more likely than men to develop such serious ailments
as Alzheimer's disease (which burdens the afflicted with near-total
memory loss and reduced mental functioning) and osteoporosis (in which
the bones become weak, brittle, and porous; the posture stooped with
the shoulders rounded). These are just two of the problems of aging
that women must be aware of and can take steps to prevent.
Having
a subluxation-free spine can impact a woman's potential to experience
optimum well being, as the vertebral joints and spinal cord are actively
involved in this process and loss of normal neurological function due
to physical, emotional, chemical stress which all can contribute to
this interference.

Premenstrual
Syndrome (PMS) and Chiropractic
The
November / December 1999 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and
Physiological Therapeutics contained a clinical study on the effects
of chiropractic on the symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome.
The study involved 25 women. They have undergone chiropractic adjustments
for a ten day period prior to the beginning of their cycles.
The women were asked to monitor and rate their symptoms. The results
showed a reduction in symptoms from between 42% and 32% for the group
that received chiropractic for only a short time. The results support
the hypothesis that the symptoms associated with PMS can be reduced
by chiropractic. Return to Top
Proof
that Chiropractic Treatment
helps Migraine Sufferers
Seventy-two
per cent of migraine sufferers in a clinical trial experienced either
'substantial' or 'noticeable' improvement after a period of chiropractic
treatment, defying historical skepticism of chiropractics by some medical
practitioners.
The randomised clinical trial was undertaken by Dr Peter Tuchin, a chiropractor
for the past 20 years, as part of his recently-completed PhD thesis
at Macquarie University.
"Around 22 per cent [of patients] had substantial reduction - which
means that more than 60 percent of their symptoms reduced during the
course of the treatment," Tuchin says. "What makes this a really strong
result is that this was a really chronic group - the average length
of time they'd had migraines was 18 years. To get a change of that sort
of magnitude in a really chronic group was quite amazing.
"Another 50 per cent had quite noticeable improvement. They either found
that the frequency of the migraines was less, the length of time they
had them was less or that they didn't need to use their medications
as much. This last result is very significant because some of the migraine
medications are very strong drugs which have lots of side effects. Some
of the migraine medications also have the problem of giving instant
relief to the migraine, but creating another 'rebound migraine' the
next day."
The trial used 123 migraine sufferers, whittled down from around 1000
who applied after seeing a television program about the research. This
group was divided into a treatment group who received chiropractic care,
and a control group who were told they were receiving a form of electrical
physical therapy. "Both groups kept a record of their migraines for
the whole six months, noting down how often they got them, how severe
they were, how long they lasted, and if there was anything they could
think of that contributed to them," Tuchin explains. "For two months
prior to any treatment they just diarised their migraines, followed
by two months of treatment and then two months of post-treatment."
Despite this study, some medical practitioners still dispute the ability
of chiropractic care to help migraine sufferers. However, Tuchin believes
this is a fast-diminishing group.
"I think the vast majority of medical practitioners are now open to
chiropractic, but there's a very small percentage who don't realise
what developments we've had, what inroads we've made," Tuchin says.
"Chiropractic is not the be all and end all, but for a good percentage
of migraine sufferers the neck is a significant contributing factor,
and for them chiropractic treatment is really effective. I'm not saying
that everybody's going to be cured, but there's very little to lose.

Some
"Quick Facts and Science"
on Chiropractic
- A recent study
by Ronald Pero, Ph.D. Chief of Cancer Prevention at NY Med. Institute
found that "Chiropractic patients had a 200% greater immuno-competance
than non-chiropractic patients." Simply put, Chiropractic patients
have a more effective immune system!!!
- 180,000 deaths
result each year as the result of iatrogenic injury (Drug side effects
and medical negligence.) That is the equivalent of 3 jumbo jet crashes
every 2 days! You would hear about that in the papers.( Lucien Leape
M.D., Harvard, J. Amer. Med. Assoc. Dec.1994)
- Chiropractic
care reported better overall health, fewer symptomatic chronic conditions,
less days in hospitals and nursing homes and more mobility than elderly
non-chiropractic patients, according to a new study conducted by the
prestigious RAND Corp.
- The Dean of the
University of Arizona Pharmacy reported that $73 BILLION is spent
on drugs every year.
- Another study
proved that over $76 BILLION was spent on dealing with the side effects
of those drugs. (Arch. Intern. Med. 1995;155). That's $3 BILLION more
spent on side effects than the drugs in the first place!!!! Better
health through better chemistry has FAILED miserably!
- Tylenol use kills
more people per year than cocaine! (Forbes Magazine, Jan. 1998) Also
reported: Relatively small overdoses of acetaminophen,
- Tylenol's active
ingredient, have been blamed for liver damage and even Deaths in children.
Consumers were not told that giving a child as little as TWICE the
proper dose over a period of time could destroy their lives. (Associated
Press).
- A study on the
effects of PMS and Menstrual Problems concluded that Chiropractic
care is an effective and safe non pharmacological alternative for
relieving the pain and distress of primary dysmenorrhea. (JMPT 1992;
15(5):279) In 1997 there were 629 million visits to alternative care
providers in the U.S. exceeding all visits to primary care physicians!
- The money spent
on this alternative care was $21.2 Billion, in which $12.1 Billion
was paid out of pocket! Exceeding all out of pocket payments for all
us primary physician services combined!
- When people have
to spend their hard earned money they choose Alternative care. (D.Eisenburg,
JAMA, Nov. 11, 1998)
- Studies show
a spine with optimum alignment is up to 16 times stronger than a subluxated
spine.
- Loss of the healthy
cervical (neck) curve stretches the spinal cord 5-7 cm and causes
serious nerve interference. The possible signals jumping across the
synapses of the brain exceeds the number of atoms in the known universe.
- Studies show
that only 10% of our nervous system perceives pain. The other 90%
is for function.
- Subluxations
causing nerve pressure equivalent to the weight of a dime on your
hand reduce the nerve impulses by 60%.
- One cubic inch
of brain cortex contains over 10,000 miles of connecting tissue.
- Your arteries
and veins would stretch out over 12,000 miles if the we laid out in
a straight line.
- Chiropractic
has been shown to boost immunity by an average of 200% for patients
in wellness care.
- The word "chiropractic"
means "done by hand." Chiropractic was discovered by D.D. Palmer in
1895. Chiropractors are the only health care professionals that specialize
in finding and correcting subluxations.
- The chiropractic
adjustment is a gentle and specific force designed to correct subluxations.
There are three phases of chiropractic care: 1) Initial Intensive
Care, 2) Corrective Care, 3) Wellness Care.
- For all disease
the central nervous system plays a major role in the healing process.
- Subluxation(s)
robs the body's ability to focus think, organize and heal.
- Health is more
than the absence of illness.
- Health is a state
of optimum physical, mental and social well-being. Return
